  • The story behind this project

It all started a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.  Oops, wrong story  :-)   Actually, this project has its origins in my own voice and my life long process in claiming the power and gift of that voice.  I remember the first time someone told me what an incredible voice I had, as I announced people’s food orders over the PA system in a restaurant where I was working as a teenager.   It turned out that he was an insurance salesman and he ended up selling me a life insurance policy, so I can’t take that one too seriously.  Yet, throughout my life different people at different times would remark about my voice.  Maybe you should be an announcer, maybe you should be a DJ, maybe you’re supposed to sing.  None of these ideas were really the truth, but there was always something at the back of my mind that said that there was some gift there, waiting to be discovered.

It wasn’t until I discovered how to move energy, first with emotional clearing, and then later through latihans, that I began to connect my voice to the feelings in my body.  This connection of sound and feelings began a gradual process of empowering my voice and seeing the gift in it.  As I continued my practice of making connected sounds and moving energy I saw how it affected those around me.   In some cases it seemed to support them in their own clearing process.  In other cases, it seemed to activate and push them in different ways.   Sometimes their anger came up.

For a period of time on the bIg Island of Hawaii, I was doing my practice in a large dance space that had a shared intention of allowing people to authentically express what came present.  For me, what often came present were tones and chants that seemed to come directly from spirit.  It was almost as though I were speaking in tongues.  I had no intention of disturbng others in my own very internal process, but after a few months of making sounds in this space, I was called by one of the facilitators and told that a number of people were complaining about the sounds I was making.  This was the same facilitator that months earlier had told me that what I was doing was fine and appropriate for the space.  What I got out of this experience was how powerfully I affect others with my voice (albeit in a somewhat unconscious way).

This was when I began to recognize the gift of my voice in sound activation.  I then set an intention that my sounds be healing and empowering to all those that could hear me.  That was when I realized that I was actually a sound healer. I began to do some research on the internet around the healing power of sound.  I ended up getting inspired enough to lead an invocation in this same dance space using the power of my sound to empower the participants and their intentions.  What came through my inner guidance (my connection to spirit) was to create a recording of my voice, layered, to amplify the inherent energy in my sound, along with a few simple percussion instruments and some Solfeggio tones.  It was a mixed success, but I realized that many people simply could not receive and use the energy for their empowerment.

Around the same time all this was happening, I was exploring the exponential power of aligned group intention in healing and creativity.  As an individual you have a certain level of power, but then when you add another person, the power doesn’t just double, it increases exponentially.  When you have a group of three it expands even further.  At some point I realized that I wanted to create a sound CD using a large group of people who not only had some musical talent, but also had a deep connection to spirit that they could access.  Another important requirement was for these people to not only be powerful creators, but people who also knew how to move energy through sound to empower their intentions.

Some of these people were close friends and already in my life.  Others showed up as I magnetized my intention for this sound creation.  Finally, the right people all showed up as if by magic in the space of a few days and converged at the church where I was living on the Big Island.  I found exactly the right person to record and produce the album, and we spent a day recording live in the church.  The experience of those who participated in the making of this CD was extraordinary, much like I hope your experience will be in listening to it.
